Connecting People To God Through God's Word
About Us
We are a spiritual family that follows the Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17) and shuns all man made creeds (Mark 7:5-8).
We view the Bible as the only source of authority for what we teach (2 Timothy 3:16) and how we worship (John 4:24; 17:17).
It is for the above reasons you will find that in our assemblies we limit our worship of God to the following expressions:
-
Prayer - (Acts 2:42; 1 Thessalonians 5:17)
-
Acapella Singing - (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16)
-
Communion - (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29)
-
Teaching - (Acts 2:42; Acts 20:7; 2 Timothy 4:2)
-
Collection - (1 Corinthians 16:1-2)
What To Expect
When you visit the Cumberland Church of Christ, we believe you’ll find a welcoming group of friendly folks. We do our best to be a loving group of devoted Christians who seek to honor God, learn and follow His Word, encourage each other and get to know our guests. We start our Sunday's with a time of Bible study. During our Bible study times students will have the opportunity, if they so choose, to ask questions and interact with other class members.
When we assemble for worship on Sundays you can expect the following:
The Lord’s Supper. The church in the New Testament observed the Lord’s Supper on the first day of the week to commemorate the death of Christ. This memorial observance consists of eating unleavened bread and drinking the fruit of the vine.
Congregational Singing. Paul instructed Christians to sing songs of praise and exhortation in worship. And because we desire to do only what is authorized, we simply sing – no more, no less.
Bible Preaching. Time will be spent in the presentation of simple and understandable studies from God’s word.
Contribution. Our guests are not expected to contribute money. This time is set aside, in accordance with Bible teaching, for the members of the church to give money that will enable us to carry out the church’s work.
These are expressions of worship that can be clearly seen in the New Testament. Our desire is not to add or take from God’s word, but to do only that for which we have authority. Come study the Bible and worship with us – we’d love to get to know you!
